Our Services

Our training methods are gentle yet very effective. Dogs require clear and consistent commands. We offer a variety of training sessions which will help to increase the bond that you and your family have with your dog.

Clicker training is used in all our training. It is an excellent reinforcer of praise and is useful when there is more than one of you training your dog as the tone is always consistent.

Once you have completed the training with us we offer ongoing support.

1-2-1 Training Sessions

These sessions are designed for behavioural problems or if you would rather learn the basic training skills with your puppy or dog on a 1-2-1 basis. Training can be done in your home to make it less stressful.

Fun Agility Classes

Agility is a great form of exercise for your dog and you. It stimulates their minds and gets you thinking too. The classes have been designed to have fun with your dog and build on your ever growing relationship with your faithful friend.

Puppy Socialisation Classes

Classes start from a week after your puppy has had all his innoculations. This is a great way to expose your puppy to unfamiliar surroundings, noises, people and other puppies. Excellent for socialising your puppy and learning the basics. Some of the things we cover house training, handling and basic commands.

This course is also suitable for older dogs who need to be socialised.

Obedience Classes

Training is suitable for all ages of dogs from 5 months and upwards. The classes aim to teach you basic commands and encourages dogs to interact well with their canine companions.

We use reward based training in agility and its advisable to bring high value treats to encourage your faithful friend to work with you on gaining confidence on using the agility equipment. Puppy agility is based around obedience and ground work, your puppy will learn a number of things; for example: how to go through a flat and a rigid tunnel, weave poles and a pause table. There is no jumping in puppy agility as it is vital that your puppy is not encouraged to jump until he/she is fully grown as its important to protect their joints.Beginners agility is suitable for dogs from 1 year and over. Jumping is included along with the tunnels, weave poles etc. By the end of an eight week course your dog will be able to complete a simple course.After completing the beginners course you will be invited to join one of our courses that is suitable for dogs and handlers who are at the next stage. We have an advanced course where we have a different course each week which tests your handling ability. Fun and laughter are encouraged during class we have dogs of all different breeds shapes and sizes. We are having a break from agility during the winter months. We will be starting again in the Spring so keep checking back for updates.Please be advised course start dates and times may be subject to change

Harley

Harley's Story

In June 2007 I bought my first dog, a black Labrador retriever, I called him Harley. I collected him from his breeder but was unaware of the problems that I was about to be faced with.Harley had had no training and hadn't been socialised with people. He had only ever been accustomed to his breeder. He hadnt been handled and I had my suspicions that he had been mistreated as he was very head shy and extremely wary of people.When I first brought him home he slept in my hall way. He didnt eat and only helped himself to water when I had gone to bed. He was extremely timid and just sat huddled in a corner of whichever room he was in.The next morning I took him into my garden and he just sat down he wouldnt walk, not even on a lead. For the first week I had to carry him to the bottom of my garden so he could relieve himself then he would run back to the house. A week later he was walking up and down the garden on a lead although he looked petrified.I started taking him for walks about three weeks after I had him and he appeared very scared of open spaces. Without me realising I was making him worse by comforting him and treating him like a child. At this point I didnt know who I should go to for help. I took him to some training classes but they didnt help. I was advised to get another dog for company for him as they felt that it would help him to come out of his shell so I started considering this option and had the decision to make of do I get an older dog who is calm and relaxed or a young puppy? Whatever I chose I was hoping it would help to bring Harley out of his shellIn September 2007 I came home with an 8 week old Sprocker Spaniel, who I named Xena. She was a typical puppy and into everything. She soon attached herself to Harley and they would curl up together to sleep but she was a very high energy puppy and in some ways was a bit to much for Harley to cope with.I decided to take him for a walk at the local recreation ground one afternoon and drove up there. I opened the boot a few inches and before I had time to react Harley had jumped out of the car and he ran. He was so fast and he wouldnt let me near him to catch him. He disappeared into the woods. I spent that night and the next day walking for miles calling him and putting posters up in the hope that someone would find him. A week passed and there was still no sign of him. I got a phone call late at night a week after he had escaped. He had got into a garden and the people had managed to lure him into their home with the help of their Labradors. Luckily he still had his tag on his collar so they were able to call me.He seemed to settle down a bit and was a little bit more outgoing after his adventure. In February 2008 I was just getting ready to go to my parents. Harley and Xena were in the garden. Xena was trying to play chase with Harley and he got scared, before I knew it he had jumped over my fence which was just short of 5 foot high and he was off again. I went running up the road trying to follow him and he went to the place where I usually walk him. I got within a foot of him but he wouldnt let me closer to him so I was unable to catch him. Again he just kept running. I spent days going through the same thing as before trying to find him. I saw one of my neighbours and she told me that on the night that he had disappeared she witnessed a dog getting hit on the main road it got up and ran off. I assumed that it was Harley. Fortunately it wasnt as I found out 7 days after he had run away. He had been found a short distance from home in a garden behind a shed. The dog warden was called and she scanned him to find my details on his micro chip. Both times he had lost a lot of weight and he was unscathed. He soon put the weight back on and made steady improvements. Some friends helped me to put a higher fence up as I was determined that he wasnt going to escape again. He still wasnt comfortable going outside and I had to take him out on his lead round the garden. He was always kept on a lead when we went for a walk. He became more settled again. I tried various different methods of training with him some things worked some didnt.Late one afternoon I decided to take Harley and Xena for a walk by the lake. Xena is a real water dog and was jumping in and out of the lake. Harley stood by the side and just watched. He then decided to make a run for it. At this point I was walking him in a harness. He shrunk his entire body and pulled himself out of the harness. He ran towards me stopped and then ran the other way. I couldnt get near him. He just kept running. This time he was gone for 11 nights. He was spotted near the lake and in the meadow on a number of occasions but no one could get near him. I eventually caught him with the help of a large dog cage and my friends. He was very thin but fortunately unscathed. Through attending agility classes with my spaniel I was able to get some help from another dog trainer. She told me that I was making Harley worse by comforting him and treating him like a child. From that point on I changed my way with him and was more positive with him and ignored the negative behaviour that he showed. I started taking him to obedience training classes for about 6 months. The improvement in him was gradual but it made such a difference. He started socialising more and he was becoming more inquisitive of other dogs and people, although he was still wary. Those two years were a huge learning curve for me and from all what I had been through with Harley I decided that I wanted to help other people with their dogs. I started helping friends out with their dogs, this was really successful. I had been asked to teach at the agility classes that I took Xena to so was getting lots of experience with different breeds of dogs. Things then started to spiral and I started getting more and more requests to help people with their dogs. I then decided I wanted to do the training more seriously and set up my dog training/behaviour business so I can help other people with their dogs. Harleys confidence has increased no end. I bought another Labrador puppy in December 2009 and he has changed Harley. He plays in the garden with the other dogs and lays outside in the sunshine. Something I wasnt sure if he would ever do. He has found his bark and is also now being less submissive and he stands up for himself if other dogs become too boisterous with him. He runs round chasing his tail and playing with toys and chewing the rawhide bones.I have had him for just over 3 years now. I still walk him on his lead but hope that one day he will be able to run free with my other dogs. The improvements I see in him are gradual but happen all the time. Little things like him wagging his tail for the first time when he saw me, coming over to me when I call him, barking and playing with other dogs these have all been so rewarding. He isnt so scared of people and he is much more interested in them. I have learnt so much through Harley and he is such a kind and gentle dog. Although the times he went missing and I didnt think I would see him again were extremely difficult, I am so proud of the progress he has made and continues to make each day.With the right kind of training any dog can be rehabilitated to have a long and happy life.

"Doodle's come a long way since his first puppy socialisation class about 8 months ago. I was really embarrassed when on his first day he barked, growled and snapped at all of the other puppies and refused to let anyone near him. Using her experience, Naomi showed Doodle how to calm down and make friends with the others, she also taught me what to do to help him socialise outside of class. After that there's been no stopping him, he loved the rest of the puppy classes and is a very enthusiastic member of the agility classes too. He's a completely different dog, friendly and happy to play with all the others, despite being about a quarter of their size! We've also had a one to one session, as being a terrier cross, Doodle can be quite excitable and very difficult to calm down. The techniques Naomi demonstrated in that one to one have made such a difference in him, he's more receptive to training, calmer and a lot less destructive. Naomi is a really personable and friendly trainer. She has a huge amount of knowledge and always stays after classes to answer some of the most random questions. Overall I'm really pleased with Paws 4 Training, Its not just for problem dogs, they all learn a lot and seem to have brilliant fun with Paws 4 Training!" - Mel and Doodle"Having waited 6 years to find the right dog we thought we had found him when Bruno arrived in our lives. Much as we all loved him he was a "character" who ate mobile phones, shoe polish, soap, body spray, sticks, socks, shoes and anything else that was "new" to him. Add to this the fact that "walkies" meant a sprint down the road faster than a Ferrari - he made us all look like something out of a cartoon! The turning point came when we took the "mad spaniel" to Devon on holiday. He nearly took my daughter and myself over the cliff edge - completely freaked me out and made me realise that we needed help (or, I hate to say it, he had to go). On our return I found Naomi's web-site and felt so much better after our first chat. On the weekend Naomi came around and Bruno was on his best behaviour - no jumping up, no racing around the furniture - he knew that things were going to change. Now, thanks to Naomi's help, he's a good boy who we regularly take to Devon on holiday and love to bits. He attends Naomi's agility training classes with my daughter and enjoys every minute. "I picked up Sam, a 16 week old black Lab pup, from a breeder and quickly discovered that he was a very nervous and timid dog. I thought that maybe something happened to him at the breeder that made him this way, but he was terrified of people and would literally shake and wet himself when anyone came near him. I was at the point when I thought I should take him back when I found Naomi. After calling her and crying down the phone, she could hear how distressed I was and came straight round to see me and Sam within the hour. She spent a long time with me, reassuring me, giving me advice about nutrition, play and training and managed to get my terrified dog to come down off the sofa and connect with her which I never thought I’d see. That was fantastic for me and Sam. Naomi has such a way with dogs and people. She calmed me and Sam and put us at ease and shared her knowledge and experiences with me openly. Naomi is so patient, caring and kind and has been there for me and Sam all the way through. When I first took Sam for a walk, he saw a cyclist and pulled off the leash and ran off out of fear. It was only a stranger that managed to catch him and save him from running into the road. Again, I was incredibly upset and wanted to give up so I called Naomi who came round that same night with her partner and grown up Lab Pheonix. They walked with me and Sam, gave me confidence, reassurance and spent as much time with us as we needed. My puppy is definitely gaining confidence and it’s thanks to Naomi, who reassured me and helped me believe that I could raise Sam to be stable and calm. She is never judgemental, incredibly supportive and I would recommend her to anyone who needs any kind of help with their dogs. On searching Google I found this website Paws 4 Training, it was so eye catching so I decided to email them, "Help how small a dog can you train?" and Naomi emailed me back to say she had a class running but I had missed 2 weeks but not to worry and we were very welcome to come along. I was made so welcome and so was Ruby, which made a lot of difference as I never go out alone as I suffer from depression and panic attacks. Weeks have gone by Ruby has received a rosette for her first session and we are nearing the end of her first session of agility training. Even though we are training our pets with Naomi's guidance we are all having fun and laugh a lot. I cannot praise Naomi enough for all her help and guidance with Ruby and I find it a real pleasure to take her out in public because I have been able to build up my confidence and trust with her all due to Naomi's training sessions. I have met some lovely owners and Ruby some good playmates. Naomi is not just a trainer to me but has become a good friend and I know I would be able to leave Ruby with her anytime I needed a sitter.
